The kickbag: less packaging, less emissions, just better

With the "Kickbag - for nature" Swiss entrepreneurs Tobias Zingg and Mariella Huber are introducing an environmentally friendly alternative to disposable packaging in the e-commerce and mail order business. The innovative project was developed in collaboration with ClimatePartner, Swiss Post and MS Direct.

The kickbag is a bag made of recycled PET and is used both as packaging for dispatch as well as a bag for return shipments. After receiving their goods, customers only need to put the empty kickbag into a Swiss Post letterbox, the return shipment is free of charge. Back at the mail order company, it is prepared for the next order.

Mariella Huber, co-founder of the start-up company Stoff&so, and Tobias Zingg, co-founder of Stadtlandkind.ch, had long been looking for an alternative, environmentally friendly packaging in e-commerce. CO2 emissions still occur, even if cardboard, plastic and styrofoam are professionally recycled. The solution: a reusable, space-saving bag which unavoidable emissions generated during production, shipping and return shipment, are already offset. For this reason, both the emissions of the bag itself and those of the shipment were balanced by ClimatePartner and offset via certified carbon offset projects. Thus the kickbag is climate neutral.

After the pilot phase, the kickbag is planned to also be available to other online retailers as an environmentally friendly shipping solution.
