„Kannst du mir mal den Edding rüberreichen?“ Schon steht die Marke umgangssprachlich stellvertretend für Marker. Was viele nicht wissen: Bereits bei der Gründung vor mehr als 50 Jahren verpflichtete sich das Unternehmen, die Umweltbelastung der Produkte so gering wie möglich zu halten. Die Vision des Vorstandsvorsitzenden Per Ledermann lautet dabei: „(…) eines Tages einen kompostierbaren Marker präsentieren zu können.“

Mit der EcoLine, die Permanent-, Whiteboard- und Flipchartmarker sowie Highlighter umfasst, zeigt edding, dass Umweltschutz auf Produktebene möglich ist: Im Produktionsprozess der nachhaltigen Produktlinie liegt der Fokus auf einer energieeffizienten Herstellung nach ISO 50001 und der Einhaltung strenger Umweltstandardstandards nach ISO 14001. Gleichzeitig wird für die Fertigung, abhängig vom Modell – bis zu 90 Prozent Kunststoff aus recyceltem Material oder mehr als 90 Prozent nachwachsender Rohstoff verwendet. Darüber hinaus können die Marker nachgefüllt und deren Spitzen ausgetauscht werden. Aktuell sind die eigenen Verbesserungspotenziale ausgeschöpft und die unvermeidbaren CO2-Emissionen gleicht edding darum über unser Waldschutzprojekt in Pará, Brasilien, aus.

Dazu gehören der Einsatz von Recyclingmaterial und nachwachsenden Rohstoffen, aber auch die sukzessive Umstellung der Produktion auf besonders energieeffiziente Maschinen, der Einsatz von Ökostrom und die Etablierung von Umwelt- und Energiemanagementsystemen. Diesen Prozess haben wir durch den Ausgleich der restlichen CO2-Emissionen abgerundet. Diesen letzten Schritt gemeinsam mit ClimatePartner zu gehen war eine gute Entscheidung."
