BABOR – carbon neutral luxury cosmetics
BABOR stands for luxury cosmetics made in Germany. Owner-run in its third generation, the company set up a distinctive plan for sustainability: the Green Agenda, providing answers and solutions in the areas of carbon emissions, packaging and ingredients.
BABOR focusses on avoiding carbon emissions and has been producing with green electricity, photovoltaics and carbon neutral eco natural gas since 2014. In its new office building, energy savings of 45 percent can be achieved right from the start, also through geothermal energy, special cooling ceilings and heat exchangers. The BABOR BEAUTY CLUSTER, the new, ultra-modern production site, is largely energy self-sufficient.
Together with ClimatePartner, BABOR has calculated the complete carbon footprint of the company and all its products. Despite all the successes in keeping overall emissions low, there are still some emissions that are simply unavoidable at present. BABOR offsets them by supporting carbon offset projects through ClimatePartner.
Above all, the cosmetics manufacturer is investing in the combined project for ocean protection: people in Tahiti and the Philippines collect plastic waste on a large scale, avoiding it to be washed into the oceans. In return they receive mobile phone credits, school fees, drinking water or simply cash. To ensure that carbon neutrality meets official standards, it is combined with a Gold Standard certified carbon offset project for wind power in the Philippines.
„At BABOR we believe in sustainable business practices - for our customers, our products and the environment. We are all called upon to think sustainability bigger and more concretely.“
