Organic products from biologon - Climate action starts at breakfast
The Tirol-based family business biologon has been passionately producing crunchy cereal and granola mixes baked in a rack oven in the traditional way and gently hand-mixed muesli and porridges from controlled organic farms since 2010.
The organic producer goes to great lengths to minimise its impact on nature and the environment to the greatest possible extent. That is why biologon’s climate action strategy is clear when it comes to sustainability: achieve carbon neutrality on a company and a product level. To accomplish this, biologon worked with ClimatePartner to calculate, reduce and offset its greenhouse gas emissions.
First of all, it calculated the emissions attributable to the company’s day-to-day business operations, from the energy it uses to business trips and employee commuting. The carbon footprints of 21 products were also calculated, factoring in the emissions from the production and procurement of raw materials, packaging, logistics and the shipping of the products.
The use of 100 per cent green electricity from hydroelectric energy in Tirol is just one way in which carbon emissions have already been reduced on a company level. The company is working on further reduction measures at the same time, including a plan to invest in a large photovoltaic system in 2023.
biologon has taken responsibility for its remaining emissions and offsets them through its support for the Gold Standard-certified carbon offset project ‘Clean cookstoves’ in Myanmar.
As a result, the company has been carbon neutral since 2022, as have 21 products for customers and its own BioLifestyle brand. This is also confirmed by the ClimatePartner label.
"Working with ClimatePartner was both enjoyable and informative. Our liaison always had time for us and helped us by actively suggesting solutions. We look forward to working with ClimatePartner again and to making even more products carbon neutral."
