Plenaire – Carbon Neutral Skin Care
Plenaire is from the French expression for “in the open air”, having the qualities of natural air and light. Holistically it is derived from the 1840 painting technique “en plein air”; emphasizing direct observation of nature, over a narrative and stylized depiction. Plenaire is a community based beauty brand for young women and men that demand a more modern, curated approach to skincare. Plenaire’s mission is to help people everywhere take pleasure in their skincare again with its range of sustainably designed skincare.
Plenaire believe that safety, great design and pleasure can coexist in harmony with sustainability. Plenaire’s team have achieved this by making more sustainable choices where possible without compromising product design and experience. Plenaire‘s packaging is fully recyclable, using PP plastics and glass, cartons are biodegradable. All of their coatings are water-based and the inks are vegetable based. Plenaire products are vegan, and cruelty free.
As a young brand Plenaire have started by ensuring their packaging is responsibly sourced and recyclable but they do not intend to stop there. Over time they have aspirations to ensure all packaging is biodegradable with sugar-based plastics and pulp-fiber cartons.
Plenaire have decided to work with Climate Partner to ensure their products are carbon neutral, too by measuring their carbon footprint and offsetting unabated emissions by supporting a project aligned with their business.
Given that water is a core component in healthy skincare, Plenaire’s choice of offset project reflects this beautifully by ensuring communities in Odisha, India, have access to clean drinking water, saving them the need to burn fossil fuels to boil their water supply ready for consumption.
"With the support of Climate Partner, Plenaire has been able to fully offset our emissions to contribute to one of the world's most relevant causes, provision of clean and safe drinking water for children and infants in Odisha, India. Being one of the first beauty brands to achieve carbon neutrality is definitely something that makes me very proud. We hope that this will get others in our industry excited and committed to join us and begin the journey towards offsetting their own emissions too."
