Superzero: Carbon Neutral Shampoo Bars
Superzero Shampoo Bar goes Carbon Neutral
Superzero did, as the name suggests, literally start from zero: their personal care products are derived from natural chemistry, require no plastic packaging, are carbon minimized, and contain no water. They produce a range of shampoo and conditioner bars amongst other beauty items with performance and sustainability at their core, whilst also donating 1% of their profits to projects protecting our planet.
While their product range is already carbon optimized by not containing water, being designed as small-sized concentrates, and eliminating all plastic, superzero decided to take that extra step forward. They decided to go carbon neutral across their product range.
ClimatePartner has helped superzero on this journey by measuring the carbon emissions related to their shampoo bar. The goal: to eliminate their environmental impact, even if already small, and compensate for emissions via offsetting and thus to further amplify their sustainability impact.
Our final report empowered them to understand their remaining impact and to choose the right offset project. superzero then compensated for the footprint of its products this year through carbon offsetting projects with the Plastic Bank.
The Plastic Bank enable locals in Haiti, Indonesia, Brazil and the Philippines to collect plastic waste in exchange for money and goods, essentially transforming plastic into a currency that empowers locals and prevents ocean bound plastics.
"From day one, we have designed our products with the highest sustainability standards in mind. ClimatePartner empowered us to eliminate the remaining carbon footprint. They are amazing to work with. The next step for us is to do even more in order to not only eliminate new plastic and add zero greenhouse gases but to start cleaning up after our competitors since unfortunately the overall beauty industry’s plastic and climate footprint outside of superzero is immense."
