Ukuthula – Carbon neutral outdoor clothing
Ukuthula Sportswear aims to sustainably accompany individuals in their outdoor activities. Their clothes are designed to be a second skin: light, breathable and comfortable, whether cold or hot, windy or rainy.
The company creates environmentally friendly products, using recyclable, natural and biodegradable materials such as their fully recycled and biodegradable fleece. The outdoor clothing manufacturer also uses biodegradable packaging and avoids the use of additional garment labels to minimize their environmental impact.
In 2020, Ukuthula started to offer two carbon neutral products within their product range. Together with ClimatePartner, Ukuthula calculated the carbon emissions produced within the product life cycles of a selected T-shirt and a light outdoor jacket – from material acquisition and production to the end-of-life of the product. In 2021, the collaboration continued and the carbon footprints of five more products were calculated.
Ukuthula offsets their product related emissions via a certified carbon offset project based on forest protection in southeast Zambia. By offering sustainable development opportunities to local people, deforestation of nearby forests is counteracted.
"At Ukuthula we work together with ClimatePartner to offer the best quality while reducing the climate impact of our garments within the manufacturing process."
