A clean sweep: With its unique service, Oecogreen is taking the five steps of climate action

In Switzerland, more than 6 million tonnes of municipal waste are produced annually, equating to 700 kg of waste per capita. Municipal waste is household-type waste, produced in private households, public buildings, and businesses. Thousands of waste containers are used for disposal. Collecting all kinds of waste not only creates unpleasant odours, but also leads to the proliferation of germs, viruses, and fungi that attract vermin. To prevent this, the containers must be cleaned regularly.

The Swiss company Oecogreen offers a solution that is not only efficient, but also minimises the impact on the climate and the environment. Using a specially designed vehicle, Oecogreen cleans waste containers directly on site. The cleaning vehicle has a facility for container cleaning mounted on the back of an electric HGV.

Efficiency-oriented route calculation minimises power consumption during trips. Oecogreen already uses 100 per cent green energy for its vehicle fleet, and a switch to green electricity is also planned for its office operations. During high-pressure cleaning, Oecogreen also reduces water consumption and recycles the dirty water used to clean the containers. Since the water temperature has no influence on the quality of the high-pressure cleaning, Oecogreen conserves resources and saves energy by not using hot water.

Together with ClimatePartner, Oecogreen has calculated its corporate carbon footprint and set further reduction targets. The company also focuses on reducing emissions in its internal processes and engages its employees, customers, and suppliers in its climate action activities.

In addition, Oecogreen finances two certified climate projects from the ClimatePartner portfolio: Firstly, a combination project that supports a solar project in India and also finances the Mountain Forest Project in Switzerland. The other is a wind energy project in Bhatel, India, which delivers clean electricity to the local energy grid.

Oecogreen transparently discloses its entire climate action strategy via its climate-ID page: From the company's carbon footprint, reduction targets and measures to the climate protection projects financed:

"The ClimatePartner team provided us with competent and helpful support throughout the entire certification process. Today we are proud to be able to officially use the label, because sustainability has been part of our corporate philosophy since day one."
