Our environmental policy
June 23, 2025
1. Purpose and objectives
At ClimatePartner, we are committed to fostering a sustainable future by integrating environmental stewardship into every aspect of our operations. Our Environmental Policy serves as a cornerstone of this commitment, providing a clear framework for reducing our environmental impact, promoting resource efficiency, and ensuring compliance with all applicable environmental laws and regulations.
We strive to operate in a manner that seeks to minimize environmental impact and ensures an eco-friendly workplace. We act in compliance with all applicable environmental laws and regulations and do our best to use good environmental practices in our activities.
2. Scope
The scope of our environmental policy covers all aspects (such as travel, waste, water and energy management) of our operations, guiding our efforts to minimize ClimatePartner's negative environmental impact.
This policy applies to all employees of ClimatePartner, including full-time, part-time, temporary, agency workers, interns, students, and any individuals engaged with ClimatePartner in a paid or unpaid capacity. It is applicable globally across all ClimatePartner locations and must be interpreted in line with applicable local laws. In the event of any conflict between this internal policy and local legislation, local laws shall take precedence.
3. Requirements
3.1. Business travel
EcoLogicAll*
The points below are intended to guide us organize our Business Travel in accordance with our ClimatePartner values and principles. With all the guidance, we expect us to act economically, responsibly and in the interest of ClimatePartner and the environment. This includes, among other things, planning our trips both from an economic and ecological point of view. And we are planning our time in a responsible manner. However, we would like to emphasise that digital meetings are the preferred way to meet prospects and customers, this is the most “EcoLogicAll” way we can use.
*A compound word derived from "Economic," "Logical," and "All." It signifies our commitment to acting economically responsible, logically sound, and in alignment with ClimatePartner's principles. These guidelines apply universally to all employees, regardless of country, role, or responsibility.
Train over plane
The preferred way to travel is by rail and public transport. Domestic flights are only permitted in case of emergency. Permission from your supervisor must be given upfront including the reason for this exception. ClimatePartner’s common rule is no flights unless one way by train takes more than 6 hours. We encourage everyone to choose train connections that take longer than 6 hours and are perhaps also moderately more expensive.
International flights
International flights are permitted for travel time of 6 hours or more. If we need to fly internationally, we can only book our class according to the flight times in the table below. Please consider, that despite the higher travel costs, we still save a lot of emissions (up to 2,5 times) when taking an Economy seat. In case we do not start your trip near our home, we use rail-to-fly options to arrive at your airport instead of your car, a rental one or a taxi.
Flight time | Accepted class |
6h to 8h flight time | Economy |
greater than 8h flight time | Economy plus |
Cars & taxi
If public transport is not an option, we use existing ClimatePartner pool e-cars if available. If not, we can order a rental (e-)car or use taxis.
Preferably, we rent small electric vehicles and, if traveling with several people, plan our journey as a group. SUVs and luxury cars, including those classified as premium by the rental agency, are not permitted. Using private vehicles should be avoided. However, if unforeseen circumstances arise due to rental car company failures or public transport disruptions, we may use our private cars.
Accommodation
- We are aiming for a sustainable stay in the hotel we choose. Some basics we should remember:
- We reduce our water consumption.
- We minimize energy usage incl. air conditioning and heating – if the outside temperatures allow for it. Turn it down when you are not in the hotel room.
- We unsubscribe from the breakfast list in case we don’t have breakfast, or we start our day early and cannot join.
- We avoid waste, use the local collecting systems if it exists.
3.2. Energy management
Effective energy management is a cornerstone of sustainable environmental policy. In our organization, we recognize the critical importance of reducing energy consumption and transitioning to renewable energy sources to minimize our environmental impact. This chapter outlines our comprehensive approach to energy management, including strategies, goals, and actions to enhance energy efficiency and promote sustainable energy practices.
Energy Management Goals: We will transform our electricity consumption in two steps to renewable electricity on a global level for our own operations:
- 80% renewable electricity until 2025
- 100% renewable electricity until 2030
In line with our ClimatePartner Certified reduction measurements.
3.3. Waste and water treatment
Water and marine resources are crucial to environmental sustainability. By implementing practical strategies, such as reducing water waste we aim to minimize our environmental impact and promote the health of these vital resources. Our water treatment commitment:
- Our company's plans and activities are in line with the promotion of sustainable water use
- Our water utilization is based on the long-term protection of available water resources
- We protect regions with increased or high water stress. Business partnerships located in these regions must protect them and contribute to their improvement
3.4. Biodiversity and ecosystems
With our core operations - developing software solutions and providing consulting services for greenhouse gas accounting - we do not directly impact biodiversity and ecosystems in a significant way. However we still hold a responsibility to respect and contribute to the protection of natural systems through our broader sustainability practices.
Our commitments
- supporting digital and paperless workflows to reduce paper consumption
- minimizing business travel to a necessary amount
- using events such as conferences, fairs and summits to meet partners and customers instead of individual meetings
- supporting hybrid work models to reduce the demand of commuting
- we invite partners and customer for regulary tree planting events several times a year
3.5. GHG Emissions and pollution
We set Science-Based-Targets inline and validated with SBTi. Our validated absolute SBTs until 2030 are:
- Target 1: We commit to reduce our scope 1 and scope 2 GHG emissions 42% by 2030 from a 2022 base year.
- Target 2: We commit to reduce our scope 3 for purchased goods and services and fuel -and energy related activities 30% by 2030 from a 2022 base year.
3.6. Beyond Value Chain Mitigation (BVCM)
We firmly believe that emission reduction alone is not sufficient to address the climate crisis with the necessary speed. While the avoidance and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions remain our top priority, we recognize that certain emissions will remain unavoidable in the short term.
Therefore, we also invest in high-quality climate protection projects beyond our direct value chain (Beyond Value Chain Mitigation, BVCM) to offset all unavoidable emissions. These projects not only contribute to carbon removal or avoidance but also support biodiversity, social development, and global climate action.
Our BVCM engagement complements our reduction measures and reflects our holistic commitment to taking responsibility beyond our company’s boundaries — for a livable future on a stable planet.
