No snow, no show
How ZIENER reduces emissions with SBTi targets
Four generations of alpine craftsmanship
Family-owned ZIENER has been developing gloves and apparel for skiing, cycling, and teamwear since its founding in 1946. Today, it ranks among Europe's leading brands in the area. Development and design come from Oberammergau, crafted by employees who practice the sports themselves. As the official outfitter of numerous national and international ski associations, ZIENER is deeply connected to professional winter sports.
Climate action is firmly embedded in ZIENER's business model: recycled fabrics, renewable, and natural materials are an integral part of product development.
When your business model melts with the ice
Skiing depends on snow and cold. Climate change threatens these conditions in the long term. For ZIENER, the equation is simple: if you make a living from nature, you must stand up for its protection.
ZIENER is committed to tackling climate action in a structured way: robust data, measurable targets, and transparent communication for customers, partners, and sports associations.
Turning good intentions into verified impact
The connection to ClimatePartner was established through the German Ski Instructors Association and has since grown into a long-standing partnership.
Together with ClimatePartner, ZIENER calculated its Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF), calculating the greenhouse gas emissions across all relevant scopes. This forms the foundation for understanding—and subsequently reducing—its own emissions. In parallel, ZIENER supports certified climate projects that promote the expansion of renewable energy in Asia, the region where much of the textile supply chain is based. ZIENER communicates its commitment transparently as a ClimatePartner-certified company via its own Climate ID website.
A footprint measured, a future committed
ZIENER has been taking responsibility for its emissions since 2020. Since 2024, it has been a ClimatePartner certified company and has financed climate projects totalling 2,756.5 tonnes of CO₂e to date. Beyond that, the company has committed to science-based reduction targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi): by 2030, absolute scope 1 and scope 2 emissions will be reduced by 42% compared to the 2020 baseline, in line with the 1.5°C pathway set by the Paris Agreement. ZIENER is already implementing these measures:
- Complete switch to renewable electricity
- Transition to lower-emission vehicles
- JobRad incentives for employees
Each year, ZIENER evaluates the measures to tackle next both internally and along the supply chain. The focus is on collaboration with landlords, manufacturers, and logistics providers to reduce emissions across all scopes.
"Sustainability isn't a side project for us, it's part of our responsibility to sport and nature. Together with ClimatePartner, we challenge existing processes, identify meaningful measures, and develop solutions that combine ecological ambition with business practice."
