A United Arab Emirates printing industry first: Oriental Press signs agreement with Farnek to manage its carbon emissions

November 23, 2021

Farnek Service LCC, the leading UAE-based smart and green facilities management company, has entered an agreement with the internationally recognised printer, Oriental Press, to reach its goal of becoming the first carbon neutral printer in the UAE/wider Gulf region.

The Oriental Group exports products to over 80 countries worldwide. Of its two main production facilities, its Dubai location focuses on colouring book manufacturing—the majority of which is exported to global markets.

ClimatePartner has been working in the Middle East with Farnek since summer 2021 and together, the companies are creating Farnek’s carbon management plan which will involve measuring Oriental’s CO2 footprint, focusing on ways to reduce existing emissions, and offsetting the remaining unavoidable emissions, using ClimatePartner’s exclusive software.

Farnek is widely considered a market leader throughout the Middle East, providing innovative and turnkey sustainable solutions to a wide range of organisations. In fact, it was instrumental in bringing some of the first carbon management solutions to the UAE.

“A positive environmental strategy is no longer an option for commercial organisations. Consumers today are demanding products that are sustainable and it is not only the printing industry that can benefit from carbon neutral products, the manufacturing industry in general can as well,” said Markus Oberlin, CEO of Farnek.

Farnek is looking at the big picture and not missing any details: proving its serious about sustainability, the company has gone so far as to add a rooftop vertical garden which grows salad plants for Farnek’s staff canteen. The food waste generated is composted and returned to the garden closing the loop and creating a circular economy.
