Driving climate action: How logistics delivers impact

February 17, 2026

The SCHACHINGER Group, headquartered in Hörsching, Austria, is one of the largest logistics providers in Central Europe. The family-owned company operates in Central and Eastern European countries, offering transport and warehousing solutions for the food, pharma and healthcare sectors, parcel services, and the high-tech and automotive supplier industries.

The diversity of businesses shapes both the strategic direction and the different requirements for sustainability and climate action.

Aligning logistics growth with climate responsibility

SCHACHINGER has been combining logistics and responsibility topics for many years. Its sustainability strategy, “Driving Change”, is aligned with CSR and ESG criteria, covering environmental, social, and economic aspects.

A key component is the climate strategy “Roadmap to Zero”, which sets out measures to reduce emissions at company sites and decarbonise the fleet.

Key pillars of the SCHACHINGER sustainability strategy “Driving Change”:

  • Fleet decarbonisation: Around 60% of company cars are already electric; the first electric trucks and e-vans have been added to the fleet.
  • Clear procurement policy: From 2032 onwards, no new trucks with combustion engines will be purchased.
  • Ambitious reduction targets:
    • 50% emissions reduction at company sites by 2035
    • 80% emissions reduction by 2040
  • Resource efficiency and circularity: Separation of valuable recyclables, use of environmentally friendly cleaning agents, and a strong focus on material and energy efficiency.
  • Making an impact: Selecting the right climate project

Making an impact: Selecting the right climate project

One of the challenges was to identify a climate project that would meaningfully complement the existing sustainability strategy. SCHACHINGER was looking for a project with both regional and international impact. Key criteria included effectiveness, certification, and regional relevance.

Linking regional conservation with global climate action

ClimatePartner supported SCHACHINGER in selecting a suitable climate project. The decision was made in favour of a combined approach that finances nature conservation measures in the Karwendel Nature Park and at the same time supports a Gold Standard-certified project in India.

The Karwendel Nature Park is Austria’s largest nature park and the oldest protected area in Tyrol. SCHACHINGER’s contribution helps restore the moorlands, the maintenance of alpine meadows, and the creation of habitats for numerous animal and plant species.

The project in India provides women entrepreneurs with access to microcredits for efficient cookstoves and solar lights for their businesses.

This combination achieves effective global climate action while also contributing to regional nature conservation.

Climate projects as a complement to operational reductions

The selected climate projects complement SCHACHINGER’s climate strategy and create tangible impact at both the international and regional level. As a result, SCHACHINGER strengthens its position as a responsible logistics partner and demonstrates how climate projects can be meaningfully combined with decarbonisation at the operational level.
