The fine print: How viaprinto builds climate action into every order
About viaprinto
viaprinto is an online printing company within the CEWE Group, specialising in B2B print products. Its fully digital ordering process includes a detailed online preview and an automated data check, giving customers confidence before they hit approve.
The product range spans business cards, flyers, posters, brochures, calendars, and full corporate stationery, produced via digital or offset printing depending on the run size. For corporate clients, the viaprinto-connect API makes it easy to integrate custom print jobs and workflows into existing systems.
Sustainability is baked into the business through CEWE's wider infrastructure: responsibly sourced materials, energy-efficient production, and a commitment to minimising overproduction. All production sites follow structured sustainability management practices to keep resource use in check. viaprinto is also expanding its range of FSC©-certified papers from responsibly managed forests.
A high-energy industry facing high expectations
Printing is inherently energy-intensive, from paper manufacturing to ink production. That's why the industry is constantly working to cut energy use, reduce material consumption, and minimise waste.
viaprinto's customer base includes large corporations, SMEs, agencies, and designers, all of whom need to move fast. At the same time, there's growing pressure from customers and partners alike to be transparent about emissions across the supply chain, take meaningful steps to reduce them, and show real accountability. Supporting certified climate projects is one way to go a step further.
A climate contribution built into the checkout
Since 2016, viaprinto has offered an optional financial climate contribution directly within the ordering process. Customers can choose to add it to their order with the amount based on the carbon emissions of that specific print job. The option is
visible at checkout and is integrated into the webshop via the ClimatePartner API. Every order that includes a contribution receives a unique ClimatePartner ID, linking to a public tracking page where the supported project can be verified.
Once the order is complete, customers also receive a certificate for the climate project they've supported, ready to use in their own corporate communications.
To raise awareness, viaprinto runs regular "Climate Action Week" campaigns, spotlighting the option and explaining how the contribution works to both new and returning customers. During these campaigns, viaprinto covers the cost of the climate contribution on behalf of its customers.
Real impact for businesses and the climate
By embedding the climate contribution into the ordering process, viaprinto makes it simple for customers to support climate projects while also creating transparency around the emissions tied to each print job.
Together with ClimatePartner, viaprinto carefully selects projects with proven impact: reducing emissions and protecting natural habitats. The current focus is a combined project supporting energy-efficient cookstoves and the conservation of sensitive marine ecosystems. Past projects have included rainforest protection in Papua New Guinea and the Mountain Forest Project in Germany's Allgäu region.
What's next: Scaling up climate action
As part of the CEWE Group, viaprinto is committed to ambitious climate targets, working to significantly reduce both direct and indirect emissions across the supply chain in line with European climate goals. Key measures include cutting production waste, shifting to renewable energy, and sourcing materials responsibly. The company is also encouraging lower-carbon commuting among employees, promoting rail travel for business trips, and improving operational efficiency across the board.
ClimatePartner continues to support viaprinto as it develops and strengthens its climate strategy.
„Die von unseren Kundinnen und Kunden freiwillig gegebenen Klimabeiträge werden verwendet, um der Umwelt etwas zurückzugeben und bestenfalls dafür zu sorgen, dass wir und auch die nachfolgenden Generationen weiterhin gut leben können. Das ist eine gute Sache und weiterhin unterstützenswert.“
