Environmental claims compliance checklist
With EU Directive 2024/825, "Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition" (EmpCo), the requirements for sustainability-related advertising are increasing significantly. General environmental claims without clear context or robust evidence will no longer be permissible; using them in communications therefore carries considerable risk.
EmpCo applies across the EU from 27 September 2026.
The checklist provides guidance on:
- Assessing general and specific environmental claims
- Addressing EmpCo requirements and national transposition
- Reducing greenwashing risks
- Transparent climate action communication
- Internal alignment between CSR, marketing, and legal
Also included:
- Practical guiding questions for reviewing claims
- AI prompts for structured analysis and internal assessment of environmental claims
