CompuGroup Medical takes stock: CSRD-compliant footprint
November 13, 2025CompuGroup Medical SE & Co. KGaA (CGM), based in Koblenz, is one of the world's leading e-health companies. CGM's digital solutions support doctors, pharmacies, laboratories, and hospitals throughout the entire patient journey, both organisationally and medically. Over 8,000 employees work to make medical information more readily available for efficient and trustworthy healthcare.
Sustainability as corporate strategy
Since 2017, CGM has been publishing regular reports on its environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance.
The core elements of CGM's sustainability strategy include climate action, promoting sustainable healthcare, and strengthening social responsibility. In this way, CGM creates and sucres long-term value for customers, investors, and other stakeholders.
Carbon footprint for CSRD and target setting
To advance its climate action strategy, CGM wanted to understand where the company's largest emissions originate. Only with this knowledge can effective reduction measures be developed and CSRD requirements be met.
The goal was to calculate the company's Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF), which meets the requirements of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
Making climate action measurable and credible
In 2023, CGM began working with ClimatePartner. Initially, the CCF was calculated for its 17 largest locations. A year later, the calculations were extended to the entire company in line with the CSRD requirements.
ClimatePartner structured the data collection, coordinated the information flows, and ensured that all relevant emissions sources were recorded so that reporting and auditing requirements were met.
With the support of ClimatePartner, CGM has now calculated its own emissions in a complete and structured manner. The report provides a reliable data basis for reducing emissions and defining future climate targets.
From reporting to action
CGM's calculation results are incorporated directly into ESG reporting based on the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), showing clearly where most emissions originate. This will then enable them to focus on areas with the greatest potential for reduction in the future.
Measures already implemented or planned include:
- Increasing energy efficiency in the data centre in Koblenz
- Optimising outdoor lighting at the Molfetta site in Italy
- Planning photovoltaic systems at German sites
"ClimatePartner acts as a reliable advisor, supporting us with sound and pragmatic solutions. Thanks to their valuable assistance with the data collection, we are now in a position to gain a comprehensive understanding of our emissions, on the basis of which we can develop targeted reduction measures and continuously evaluate our progress."
