JCDecaux Sweden hits carbon neutral milestone with ClimatePartner

October 3, 2022

JCDecaux Sweden, part of the world’s largest outdoor advertising corporation, JCDecaux Group, has become a carbon neutral company with help from ClimatePartner.

The group was founded in 1964 in France and was the inventor of street furniture advertisement when they started advertising on bus stops. With business now in more than 80 countries, the company is best known for their bus-stop advertising systems, billboards and other street furniture that hold both fixed, scrolling and digital advertisements campaigns.

JCDecaux Sweden has been working with ClimatePartner since December 2021, kickstarting our journey together with the Corporate Carbon Footprint (Scope 1, 2 & 3) and five Product Carbon Footprints. JCDecaux Sweden has offset their corporate carbon footprint through supporting ClimatePartner’s offset project in Colombia — and since May 2022, we have been working together to help them develop a strategy to significantly reduce their Corporate Carbon Footprint by 2030.

JCDecaux Sweden have even calculated the production emissions of the marketing campaigns, in turn enabling them to offer their clients to make their marketing campaigns with JCDecaux carbon neutral.

JCDecaux Sweden has set ambitious goals when it comes to sustainability: they have a goal to halve their emissions every decade, with the latest published goal being a 50% reduction of 2020 emissions by 2030.  Since 2010, JCDecaux Sweden began measuring their emissions and have switched from fossil fuels to fossil-free transportation; transitioned to green electricity; and moved to more sustainable paper for their printed advertising products.

JCDecaux Group has openly and transparently communicated their Corporate Carbon Footprint, as well as the footprint of their products. The CEO of the JCDecaux Sweden, Magnus Heljeberg, says, “We urge the entire industry to follow our initiative. Set concrete climate goals, halve emissions each decade, be transparent with your emission figures and join us on the journey as we now take the first step and openly report carbon footprints per campaign.”
